Dr. Derek Moody

Derek Moody, M.D

  • Fellowship Trained Orthopedic Spine Surgeon

Dr. Derek Moody is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon dedicated to delivering the highest quality spine care to the residents of Victoria and the surrounding South Texas communities. Dr. Moody believes in a thoughtful, individualized, patient-centered approach to spine care. He emphasizes the importance of exhausting all non-surgical treatments first. When surgery is necessary, he has a special interest in minimally invasive and targeted surgical techniques that prioritize rapid recovery and lasting relief.

Dr. Moody was born and raised in Austin, Texas with his parents and two brothers. He then left for College Station to attend Texas A&M University, where he earned a degree in Biomedical Sciences and graduated at the top of his class.

He went on to earn his medical degree from McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. While there, he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, the prestigious medical honor society reserved for the top-performing students. It was also during medical school that he met his wife, Wylie, who was pursuing her own medical degree.

Dr. Moody remained in Houston to complete his orthopedic surgery residency at UT Houston, one of the busiest and most rigorous Level I trauma centers in the country. His training provided him with a broad and intensive orthopedic foundation, including substantial experience in spine surgery. Following residency, he pursued advanced subspecialty training through a combined orthopedic and neurosurgical spine fellowship at Houston Methodist Hospital. This unique fellowship allowed Dr. Moody to train alongside both orthopedic spine surgeons and neurosurgeons, equipping him with the comprehensive skill set needed to treat the full spectrum of spinal disorders. His training also included the latest in spine surgery technology and minimally invasive techniques.

Dr. Moody is committed not only to technical excellence, but also to providing compassionate, personalized care. His practice includes both surgical and non-surgical management of conditions affecting the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Moody is a dedicated husband and father. He and his wife Wylie—now a dermatologist—married during residency and are raising their four daughters in Victoria, Texas. Together, they share a deep commitment to serving the local community. In his free time, Dr. Moody enjoys spending time outdoors, especially fishing in Port O’Connor and hunting in South Texas.
